On Dec. 9, 2012, an event for the smartphone-based social game Girlfriend (Beta) took place in Akihabara, Tokyo. The game is a school romance card game that boasts an impressive lineup of 60 voice actresses. The event was a collaboration with the Nippon Broadcasting radio program “Mu~Comi Plus”. The name of the event was “Girlfriend (Beta) x Mu~Comi+ ‘Mimi de Moeru’ Free Event @ Akihabara”.
The 650 fans in attendance were delighted when voice actresses from the game took the stage in Akiba Square. Making an appearance were Rina Sato, who voiced Sakurai Akane, Hitomi Harada, who voiced Mochizuki Elena, Kaori Mizuhashi, who voiced Himejima Kinoko, and Kaori Nazuka, who voiced Murakami Fumio.
At the event, fans erupted in thunderous applause and cheers as the voice actresses talked in their respective character’s voice before appearing on stage. The crowd was all smiles as the voice actresses gave an inside scoop on the game and acted out a voice drama between characters that you can’t hear in the game. In the second half of the event, the voice actresses enthusiastically performed dialogue that was chosen beforehand from Twitter submissions, such as a bittersweet confession, to the anguish of many fans in the crowd. Lastly, a rock-paper-scissors tournament was held to give away life-sized cutouts of the characters signed by the voice actresses.
Sato addressed fans, saying, “Thank you for coming out today. Please try playing the game and find your favorite girl.” Mizuhashi also addressed the crowd, sharing her hopes of the game expanding to various media: “It is my hope that the game rapidly expands and that Kinoko-chan will continue into other media.”
