Otaku Flood the Streets of Akihabara for the Winter Radio Kaikan Festival! [2/2]

The first thing we noticed upon entering Radio Kaikan was a trading card game booth where fans gathered to play Phantasmagor. Phantasmagor is a card game that is loaded with moe girls. In the game, players choose one card to be the “ace” and up to five cards to be “vanguards” and they battle it out until one is victorious. Many people get together with friends to play the game for fun. However, on that day, players were having serious battles. Though, everyone was still having fun.

The event also had plenty of booths selling goods. At SEGA’s booth, two unreleased figures were on display: Kagami Hiiragi from Lucky Star and Kirino Kousaka Stardust Witch Meruru Ver. from Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai. A prize drawing, which attracted quite the crowd, was later held in which the figures were given away.

The Takara Tomi A.R.T.S booth had capsule toys from Sword Art Online and The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat, which is set to begin airing in the summer of 2013. The DMM.com booth featured girls in cosplay to promote the games Love Kanojo!!, a PC and smartphone romance game featuring beautiful girls, and Meikore, a game where you train maids in the popular Akihabara maid cafe, @home cafe. Throngs of people gathered around the booth to photograph the lovely ladies.

Regarding the success of the Winter Radio Kaikan Festival, we talked with Mr. Murata from Radio Kaikan’s media division:
The Winter Radio Kaikan Festival is an event that gathers the companies and culture
of Akihabara in one place. In regard to the event, the response from participating
businesses has been positive. We have received support and participation from many
businesses again this year. More and more, we want to incorporate the niche culture
of Akihabara in order to enliven all of Akihabara.

Events like the Winter Radio Kaikan Festival, which brings together so many different companies and organizations, succeed due to the burning passion of otaku, and show the world the true energy of Akihabara.
