The Fourth Kyoto Historica International Film Festival will Be Held Next Month

From December 1-9, 2012, the fourth Historica International Film Festival (simply known as Historica or KHIFF) will be held in Kyoto as part of the Kyoto CMEX 2012 Festival. KHIFF’s theme is “history” and movies from around the world that are historic period pieces will be screened. Throughout the event, films will be screened at five different venues: Kyoto Cinema, the Museum of Kyoto, Toei Studios Kyoto, Shochiku Studio, and Toei Kyoto Studio Park.

The festival will open with a double feature of the 2012 films “Farewell, My Queen” and “The Castle of Crossed Destinies”. Along with the screenings, there will also be guest appearances by filmmaker Benoit Jacquot and actor Yuuki Nagae. Each guest was able to pick four movies to have a special screening at the festival. These special screenings will include “Rouroni Kenshin” (2012), “Ironclad” (2011), and “Tom Sawyer” (2011). Furthermore, at the Museum of Kyoto, a collection of five historic films by the renowned filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, including “Seven Samurai” (1954) and “Rashomon” (1951), will be screened throughout the festival.

There will also be a discussion panel featuring the director of “Rouroni Kenshin”, Keishi Otomo; action choreographer, Kenji Tanigaki; and the director of “Nobou no Shiro”, Shinji Higuchi.
