Lately, Vocaloid has been getting a lot of attention from both anime fans and non anime fans alike. After the appearance of Hatsune Miku, many people have been creating music using Vocaloid software and uploading their songs to sites like Nico Nico Douga. Now, Vocaloid songs are among the top ranked karaoke songs, and Vocaloid artists have gained recognition by the music industry.

Recently, two compilation CDs containing Vocaloid covers of anime songs have been released. The two compilation CDs, titled “Vocaloid Anime Song Cover Collection - Boys Side” and “Vocaloid Anime Song Cover Collection - Girls Side”, went on sale in Japan on October 17 for 2,500 yen ($30) each. Fourteen Vocaloid artists and six illustrators participated on the CDs. The CDs are an ambitious undertaking by Vocaloid artist Rerulili, who was in charge of the project. “Boys Side” contains songs from anime that are popular with boys, and “Girls Side” contains songs from anime that are popular with girls. The CDs focus on anime songs from the 2000s, such as Hyouka and Yuru Yuri, but a wide range of classic anime songs from the 1990s, such as “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis” from Evangelion and “Moonlight Densetsu” from Sailor Moon, are included as well.
