OtapediaNewtype Anime Awards - Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer)

The Demon Slayer series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge made an appearance in the awards for the Kadokawa Monthly Newtype magazine, one of the most important publications in Japan. In October 27, 2019 the results of the 2018-2019 Newtype Anime Awards at the Machi Asobi Vol. 23 event were announced.

In addition to the animated film Promare, Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) achieved great success within these awards. Among other categories, this anime series received the award for the Best Broadcast Series, along with the first position in most categories, such as Best Male Character, Best Female Character, Best Voice Actor and Actress, among other awards.

Although the winners were chosen via fans vote, it should also be taken into consideration that Hikaru Kondo, the president of the Ufotable animation studio, the one responsible for animating Demon Slayer, also organized the Machi Asobi event. Still, the anime series won thanks to the votes of its fans, there are not real suspicions that the results could have been rigged. The anime series that were allowed to aim for the awards must have been released between Summer 2018, that is, July 2018, until Spring 2019, which means, June 2019.

Here are the official results of the top 10 positions in the ranking. Even though Demon Slayer and *Promare *took the vast majority of the awards, there are also other popular anime series that received various awards such as Banana Fish, Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online: Alicization.
