Kirito Appointed Cybersecurity Investigator! Tie-in with NISC Begins!
The National Center of Incident Readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity in Japan is starting a tie-in project with SAO, and Kirito has been appointed Japan’s cybersecurity investigator!

IT has become an essential part in all areas of daily life. However, when unlikely disasters and data breaches occur they have the possibility of dealing a huge blow to daily life and economics. NISC is an organization created by Japan’s Cabinet Secretariat in 2015 to ensure cybersecurity.

Along with his appointment as cybersecurity investigator, Kirito and other characters from the movie will appear together on posters and banners for a 1-month period. In addition to informing as many people as possible as to the purpose of the month-long campaign, the posters and banners will appear in an event hall sponsored by NISC, appealing to the importance of cybersecurity.

Message from chief producer of Sword Art Online the Movie, Nobuhiro Osawa:
“I’m greatly honored that Sword Art Online was chosen for this cybersecurity public awareness campaign. Originally, SAO was themed around a futuristic online VR (Virtual Reality) game in which death in the game meant death in real life. Of course, it’s story is fictional, but SAO hints at the dangers that lurk in this world of communication assisted by the internet not just in terms of data breaches and monetary theft but also in its relation to daily life. However, essentially cyber technology like online games and VR bring people new forms of entertainment and conveniences to daily life. Enjoying games, sharing hobbies with friends, making life more convenient through the internet - cyber technology is, so to speak, a tool for those purposes. The main principle in combating crime using this tool is ensuring cybersecurity; there is nothing else.

Some of the devices and technology depicted in the upcoming movie Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale have already been said to be technologically feasible. In other words, I regard them as events that can realistically happen in the future. I hope fans can come to have an interest in this campaign, even a little, through SAO.”
