What’s Up with the #SAOカメラ Hashtag That’s Going Viral in Japan?
The official smartphone app for Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale has been released in Japan. It offers fans a way to easily check information on theaters that will screen the movie as well as ticket info and more. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t work abroad, but the app’s AR (Augmented Reality) function for taking collaborative photos is so cool we just had to share it!
By opening the app’s camera you can take unique pictures using SAO character frames.
There are several frames to initially choose from, with more obtainable as login bonuses, and they make use of an AR function through GPS.
AR spots and markers for the app have been hidden all over Japan, and by logging into the app at one you can get a frame!
The characters available at each spot will change at random intervals, meaning fans may have to hoof it to several spots in order to get their favorite character. We hit the streets using the app with Asuna to check out real world locations used in Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale.
Here’s one in front of the karaoke building that will appear in the series.
Here’s Kirito entering the Tokyo Otaku Mode office.
There are even seasonal frames available including Christmas.
In all, there are over 150 different frames to choose from! What a wonderful fusion of fantastic SAO character artwork with real photos!
Fans in Japan have been using the Twitter hashtag #SAOカメラ (#SAOCamera) to upload all kinds of photos taken with the app. Check out the link below to take a look!
