Powerful & Kind Female Lead Characters
“I am Sailor Moon! I stand for love. And I also stand for justice. And in the name of the Moon, I will punish you!” - Sailor Moon
The main character, Usagi Tsukino who lives in Tokyo, is relatable to young schoolgirls as she is one herself. At first she might just seem adorably ditzy, but she is far more than that! She gains the ability to transform into the magical girl known as Sailor Moon, is friends with talking cats (Luna and Artemis), and leads a group of other magical girls called Sailor Soldiers to fight injustice and the destruction of the Solar System while also just enjoying their daily lives.
If fans didn’t identify with Sailor Moon, there was always Sailor Mercury (Water and Wisdom), Sailor Mars (Fire and Passion), Sailor Jupiter (Thunder and Courage), Sailor Venus (Love and Beauty), Sailor Pluto (Spacetime and Change), Sailor Uranus (Sky and Flight), Sailor Saturn (Destruction and Silence), and Sailor Neptune (Ocean and Embrace) to relate to - each a soldier of specific emotions and/or natural elements. Not to mention, certain Sailor Soldiers possess certain special abilities such as psychic clairvoyance, freezing time, and healing powers.
Thanks to the Sailor Moon series, girls around the globe had new powerful, yet female “superheroes” to inspire them. They were introspective, loyal, playful, smart, funny, ambitious, heroic, strong, and yet also feminine. They were on equal footing with male superheros yet also rocked sailor outfits and a plethora of cute magical equipment like compacts and wands!
A Captivating Story of Adventure, Love & Family
“Endymion, you are my first love, my only love... even if we're reborn, in another life, we'll find each other... and then... We'll fall in love again…” - Princess Serenity
The 5 arc story (200 episodes!) isn’t just all about saving the Solar System by fighting bad guys such as the Dark Kingdom, Black Moon Clan, Death Buster, Dead Moon Circus, and Shadow Galactica, but is also a story of love. For many young girls, the story that enfolded between Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask was their first love story. Furthermore, it is a story of self-discovery as many of the characters’ pasts are hidden from them and much time is devoted to them discovering their true selves. And lastly, it is a story of family, as shown through the relationship between Chibiusa and Usagi.
