Doraemon is a series so established and popular it almost needs no introduction - but it’s getting one anyway! First published in 1969 as a comedic manga series, the story and characters were so beloved it continued for 27 years with 45 volumes. It’s also had several anime series with over 1,700 episodes, 37 films, 63 video games, and more - leaving absolutely no wonder as to why Doraemon is regarded as one of Japan’s cultural icons.

The story itself revolves around the creature Doraemon being sent back in time to accompany a young boy named Nobita to be his companion and help him become a happy, well-adjusted adult. With Doraemon’s pocket that can produce any number of interesting items and gadgets—like the Anywhere Door, 4D Pocket, and Take-copter—the two oftentimes find themselves in wacky situations due to their silly antics.
