Earl Ciel Phantomhive is the current head of the Phantomhive household and the master of the Black Butler himself, Sebastian Michaelis, in the supernatural/gothic manga Black Butler created by Yana Toboso and adapted into a hit anime franchise directed by Toshiya Shinohara and produced by A-1 Pictures.
Currently known as “The Queen’s Watchdog,” Ciel was once enslaved and tortured in a cult ritual and wears a black eyepatch over his right eye to hide the pentagram-like symbol of his Faustian Pact with Sebastian whom he summoned in his fear and loathing for his kidnappers. From that day on he has vowed to get revenge on the people who were responsible for his cruel treatment and, like his ancestors, solves cases and eliminates enemies on behalf of her majesty Queen Victoria.
When not busy working cases, Ciel is also in charge of his family business, the Funtom Corporation, which manufactures sweets, toys, and later food which even succeeds in winning a Royal Warrant for its extreme high quality. He is also often seen wearing a gold signet ring bearing the Phantomhive Crest which he uses to stamp the seal on official documents and was one of the few artifacts to survive the fire which killed his parents, Vincent and Rachel Phantomhive.
