Season 2 of the parody anime project Channel 5.5 by energy supplement Calorie Mate and Frogman will release on April 14 (Mon.) at 15:00 (JST). Channel 5.5 is an unprecedented parody project in which Flash animation genius Frogman, who is well known for Eagle Talon, aims to “destroy” each and every masterpiece Japanese manga. Falling victim in Season 1 was the masterpiece detective manga Kindaichi Case Files. Season 2 now has its sights set on the sci-fi manga Ghost in the Shell: Arise.
Ghost in the Shell: Arise is the newest anime in the monumental series Ghost in the Shell which has a diehard worldwide fanbase. The story revolves around the 501 Organization and Motoko Kusanagi before joining Section 9. The series is divided into four parts and the first two have already been released. Part 3 of the series, “Border:3,” will release this year, which also marks the 25th anniversary of the series.
In the original Arise, Motoko Kusanagi is played by Maaya Sakamoto. However, for this parody she will be played by Sumire Uesaka who is well known for her role as Sanae Dekomori in Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions. Uesaka has a deep knowledge of old anime and is a military otaku. What kind of “ghost” will be created of Major Kusanagi by Uesaki and genius Frogman? This is not to be missed by Ghost in the Shell fans.
Before the release of Episode 1, a prologue Episode 0 has been released on the official YouTube channel. This tells how the fictional youth channel Channel 5.5 acquired permission to remake the masterpiece sci-fi anime Ghost in the Shell: Arise.
Also, at 21:30 (JST) on April 13 (Sun.), the eve of the release of Episode 1, a special broadcast of “Channel 5.5 Ghost in the Shell: Arise Eve of Release SP” will occur on Nico Nico Live. Appearing for this will be Sumire Uesaka, the voice of Motoko Kusanagi, director Frogman, and Mai Aizawa who plays Channel 5.5 employee Hiroko Sawatari. They will likely talk about the appeal of the show.
