Huh? There is an “Ikki” Light Novel...? The hero Gonbe... Who is that?

The cover illustration for the light novel based on the legendary game Ikki, titled Ikki: Legend of Takeyari Master, has been released on sales agency 123 Bookstores’ official site. In the middle of the illustration is, of course, the hero Gonbe but....who’s this pretty boy?

If you look at the character introduction, the spelling of his name has been changed from “Gonbe” to “Gonbee.” Certainly it is no mistake that this guy is our hero, right? Hmm...well, he’s definitely carrying a bamboo spear. This doesn’t make sense either but a cute girl is snuggling up to this country bumpkin. No way, is this maybe the second player character, Tago?! If you think about it, the girl seems like she could be Tae, Tago’s only daughter. Hurrah, that’s it, it must be Tae! It’s a shame, but it seems like Tago has been downsized.

What’s more, fans who read the explanation of the story will be filled with questions like, “Why did they wake Ikki up?” and, “Why are they holding bamboo spears and sickles?” and, “Just who the heck are these characters really?” Yes, what are their true identities?! They can’t really be just farmers, can they?
