Rurouni Kenshin Final Chapter Movies Postponed Due to COVID-19

The release of long-awaited Rurouni Kenshin live-action movie sequels will be postponed until spring 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The two-part “final chapter” was originally set to be released on Jul. 3 ( The Final ) and Aug. 7 ( The Beginning ). The former sees Kenshin face off against Enishi, while the latter explores how Kenshin got his famous scar.

Lead actor Satou Takeru offered his apologies to disappointed fans and stated that he was looking forward to a time where he could see everyone again.

Meanwhile, director Otomo Keishi explained that with studios closed because of Japan's state of emergency, they were unable to continue with production as planned. He also expressed hope that with the new release date in place, the team would be able to further polish the films so that they could be enjoyed to the fullest in cinemas.

Advance ticket sales will be paused from May 29, but those already purchased will be valid when the movies open next year.

Rurouni Kenshin: The Final and The Beginning will now open at cinemas across Japan in spring 2021.
