Japanese rock band The Pillows is providing the theme songs for FLCL Alternative and FLCL Progressive, the upcoming sequels to cult hit OVA FLCL. With the premiere dates nearing, fans can first enjoy a collaborative music video featuring both title songs combined with scenes from the sequels and footage from The Pillows' recent American tour.
FLCL is an OVA series released in six parts from 2000 to 2001 and produced by Neon Genesis Evangelion’s Gainax. It follows ordinary 12-year-old Naota as his boring everyday life is turned upside down by the arrival of vespa riding heroine Haruka.
“FooL on CooL generation”, the soundtrack for the sequel entries (featuring Alternative theme “Star overhead” and Progressive theme “Spiky Seeds”) will be released for digital streaming via iTunes, Spotify, mora, RecoChoku and more on Sept. 5.
FLCL Alternative and FLCL Progressive open in cinemas across Japan on Sept. 7 and 28 respectively.
