Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale was a huge hit that has garnered more than 2.5 billion yen in box office earnings since its theater release this February. With the DVD and Blu-ray having been released on Sep. 27, it's also dominating Oricon’s Weekly Blu-ray and DVD Ranking for week 41.
In addition, Ordinal Scale opened in over 6,000 theaters in China on Sep. 15, bringing in a staggering 860 million yen in China (as of Oct. 3) and a total of 4.3 billion yen worldwide.
Sword Art Online also recently announced two upcoming anime series: SAO: Alicization, a sequel to the second season as well as the movie, and SAO: Alternative Gun Gale Online, a spin-off by Shigusawa Keiichi.
The limited edition Blu-ray retails for 9,000 yen, the DVD for 8,000 yen, while the regular editions cost 5,800 yen and 4,800 yen, respectively. All versions include a Blu-ray/DVD and a bonus CD and come with Japanese and English subtitles, featuring extras such as PVs and commercials.
