Check the Big News From AnimeJapan 2017 With this Quick Summary!

AnimeJapan 2017 was held from Mar. 23−26 at Tokyo Big Sight, and with it came a ton of huge anime announcements! But as exciting as all this otaku news is, it can be a bit of a task to wade through so many articles. To help you out, we've put together a little summary of all the big reveals!

Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru Season 2 to Air in Jan. 2018


This tale of classic Japanese swords-turned-handsome men began as a mobile game by Nitroplus and DMM Games, and has already been adapted into one anime series, Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru. Its first season finished in Dec. 2016, but the Touken Danshi will be back in Jan. 2018 for a second season.

Katsugeki Touken Ranbu Main Cast, Staff and Theme Song Artists Announced


The other anime adaption for Touken Ranbu, Katsugeki Touken Ranbu will begin airing in Jul. 2017. The staff announced were Obunai Mitsuru, Kimura Masaru and Kunihiro Masayuki (weapons animation), Yamamura Tatsuya (historical research), and Watanabe Kougyoku (swordsmanship guidance).

Katsugeki Touken Ranbu's main cast members include Kimura Ryohei (Izuminokami Kanesada), Hama Kento (Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki), Enoki Junya (Yamabushi Kunihiro), Yamashita Seiichirou (Yagen Tōshirō), Sakurai Toru (Tonbokiri), and Saitou Souma (Tsurumaru Kuninaga).

Saitou will also perform the opening theme, whose title has yet to be released. Vocal group Kalafina is to perform the ending theme.

Fate/Apocrypha Anime Broadcast Date, Main Cast and PV Revealed


Fate Apocrypha, a light novel from the Fate/stay night series, is receiving an anime adaptation this year. At the "Fate Project 2017 Special Stage", it was announced that the anime would air in Jul. 2017 on several networks.

Along with the key visual and promo video, the main cast was also revealed. Sakamoto Maaya is to play Ruler, with Hanae Natsuki voicing the other protagonist, Sieg. Other cast members include Uchiyama Kouki (Shirou Kotomine), Suwabe Junichi (Saber of Black), Takeuchi Shunsuke (Archer of Black), Okiayu Ryotaro (Lancer of Black), Tange Sakura (Assassin of Black), Sawashiro Miyuki (Saber of Red), Hayami Saori (Archer of Red), Yusa Koji (Lancer of Red), Furukawa Makoto (Rider of Red, Inada Tetsu (Caster of Red), Tsuruoka Satoshi (Beserker of Red), and Shindou Kei (Assassin of Red).

First Movie of Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel Trilogy to Premiere on Oct. 14, 2017


With the movie trilogy having been announced in 2016, the first film's release date has now been set for Oct. 14, 2017. These anime films are an adaptation of a route from the original Fate/stay night visual novel.

Fate/Grand Order to be Adapted as a Stage Play


Smartphone game Fate/Grand Order will receive a stage adaptation titled Fate/Grand Order The Stage: Shinsei Entaku Ryōiki Camelot Replica; Agateram. Along with a key visual, it was also revealed that it would run from Jul. 14-17 at Roppongi's Zepp Blue Theater.

Owarimonogatari to Receive Summer Anime Adaptation


NisiOisin Anime Project announced that Owarimonogatari, a work from the Monogatari series, would be airing as an anime in summer 2017. The adaptation will be based on the third novel of the Owarimonogatari series. The news was also accompanied by a key visual and promo video.

Yowamushi Pedal New Generation Releases Explosive Visual and Announces New Cast Members


Raising anticipation before the April broadcast of its second half, Yowamushi Pedal New Generation shared its new key visual at a stage event. With 14 characters gathered and ready to ride for their lives, it's certainly one that's full of impact.


Ono Daisuke and Yuma Uchida will also be joining Yowamushi Pedal New Generation as Hakone Academy students Doubashi Masakiyo and Shinkai Yuto! How will the Sohoku team fare against these new rivals?

Little Witch Academia Reveals Visual, New Character and PV with Opening and Ending Themes


A new visual for Little Witch Academia's second half was released with info on a new character, Croix, who will be played by Takeuchi Junko.

A PV sampling the new opening and ending theme songs was also unveiled. Both artists from the first half will be back with new songs, with the opening theme "MIND CONDUCTOR" by YURiKA and ending theme "Toumei na Tsubasa" by Ohara Yuko.

Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS Lead Voice Actor, Main Staff and Theme Song Announced


Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS protagonist Fujiki Yusaku (also known as the Playmaker) will be played by Ishige Shouya. It will be directed by Hosoda Masahiro, with previous Yu-Gi-Oh! staff members Yoshida Shin, Hikokubo Masahiro and Hara Kenichi back for series composition, duel layout and character design respectively. Sound director Matsuoka Yuuki will also return, with music composition to be done by Mitsumune Shinkichi.

GALLOP will produce the anime, and Tominaga Tommy Hiroaki is to perform its theme song, "With the Wind".
