Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale Ranks No.1 On Its Opening Weekend!

The highly anticipated Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale premiered in Japan on Feb. 18 and was all the hype this past weekend.

Fans all over the country came out in droves to watch the movie on its opening weekend, quickly catapulting it to #1 at the box office. With an initial release in 151 theaters, there was a total of 308,376 ticket sales resulting in 425,762,760 yen as box office revenue. The average theater, many of which had sold-out showings, pulled in around 2.8 million yen for the movie. Ticketing service PIA has the film ranked at #1 according to a premiere satisfaction survey they had conducted.

The Ordinal Scale theme song “Catch the Moment” was performed by singer LiSA. The single (as of Feb. 18) was rated at #1 on the Oricon daily charts.

If you’re in Japan and you haven’t seen it yet, or if you want to watch it again, you might want to wait a few days - theaters will begin screening the 4D version of the movie starting Mar. 10!
