Suga Kenta Returns as Hinata Shoyo in New Haikyu! Stage Adaptation Next Spring

Haikyuu!! is a volleyball manga by Furudate Haruichi serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, and a new entry in its line of stage adaptations has been announced. It will be called Hyper Projection Play Haikyuu!!: Winner and Loser and be performed in Tokyo, Miyagi, Osaka, and Fukuoka.

Hinata Shoyo began playing volleyball after seeing the “little giant” as a child. What was waiting for him in the volleyball club of Karasuno High School, though, was the genius volleyball player Kageyama Tobio, to whom he least a terrible defeat in his first and last game as a junior high school student. They were enemies at first but get closer bit by bit. Hinata and Kageyama begin to grow as members of the Karasuno High School volleyball team which has fallen to being called the “fallen champions” and “flightless crows.” Now they’ve made their way to the Interhigh Miyagi Preliminaries. How will Karasuno play, or get through the matches? The ball can’t touch the ground, and you can’t hold it. You can touch the ball 3 times. The strength of mutual resentment and the wish for victory.

Haikyuu!! is a hugely popular manga currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) with more than 20 million copies printed. Its stage adaptation had its first performance in November of last year, returned this past April, and the play **Karasuno, Revival!” is currently being performed. Its last show will; be on Dec. 12, and as a part of the grand closing ceremonies, there will be a live viewing at theaters in 47 prefectures.

Now, fans get to look forward to another stage adaptation. The protagonist, Hinata Shoyo of Karasuno High School, will once again be played by Suga Kenta who has continued to impress everyone with his acting and athletic talent. Hinata’s rival Kageyama Tobio, also known as the King of the Court, will be played by Kimura Tatsunari who blows people away with his stage presence. As the Karasuno cast continues to work together, their growing teamwork continues to be a highlight of their performances. Kageyama’s upperclassman from junior high school and the captain of Aobajousai, Oikawa Toru, will be played by a new addition, Kosuke Asuma. The co-captain of Aobajousai will be played by Kohatsu Allen. A charming cast and a number of talented creators have been brought together.

Director and screenplay writer Kinoshita Wally also said, “At last, we’ll see what comes of Karasuno vs. Aobajousai. This play shows the winner and loser, confrontation of setters, regulars and substitutes, the final match, mind games, past traumas, trying out new techniques, and, of course, sports, volleyball, and the best of adolescence. You can still expect the hyper performance and play, but we’ll also give you a chance to experience a world you can’t find outside of the stage adaptation of Haikyu!!.”

Hyper Projection Play Haikyu!!: Winner and Loser will be performed from Mar. 24~26 at Tokyo Dome City Hall (Tokyo), Tagajo City Cultural Center (Miyagi), Umeda Arts Theater (Osaka), and Canal City Theater (Fukuoka).
