Death Note Shinigami Appear in Amuro Namie’s New Music Videos!

Death Note: Light Up the New World is garnering attention with the “return” of Fujiwara Tatsuya (Yagami Light) and Matsuyama Kenichi (L), and now a ridiculously cool music video for Amuro Namie’s dance number for the movie Fighter has been released. The video is a collaboration with Ryuk and other Shinigami making appearances in addition to Amuro.

This film is set 10 years after the genius vs. genius battle of Death Note in which Kira (Yagami Light) attempted to change the world while the brilliant detective L attempted to catch him. It follows a “new generation” fighting over the Death Note and their own ideas of “justice.” This generation includes Mishima Tsukuru (Higashide Masahiro), an investigator who’s familiar with the Kira case, Ryuzaki (Ikematsu Sosuke), L’s genetic successor, and the Kira worshipper and cyber-terrorist Shien Yuki (Suda Masaki).

The music video for the movie’s theme song Dear Diary was announced last week. This is a powerful ballad about how love and trust shine light on the world and length strength for sadness and pain to be changed into strength and love. The song Fighter is a dance number packed with passion about wanting to fight for the one you love.

These are in addition to the theme song for Death Note: New Generation, the prequel to the new film being released as a Hulu original about Mishima, Ryuzaki, and Shien. The Shinigami appearing in the movie also make an appearance in the collaborative music video.

Amuro faces the Shinigami Ryuk on a long table with a suggestive look in once scene. In another Ryuk appears holding his favorite food, an apple, and Amuro appears with red eyes like she has obtained Shinigami eyes while dancing. “Shinigami eyes” are eyes obtained by making a contract with a Shinigami and trading half of your remaining lifespan, and they allow the holder to look at a person’s face and see their lifespan and true name. In addition to Ryuk, a grayish white Shinigami appears in the video, along with one other Shinigami.

This music video is a dark fantasy, filled with elements of the world of Death Note. It was filmed while planning where the Shinigami would appear, such as sitting in a chair.

The short versions of Fighter and Diary are available on the official AmuroNamiech YouTube channel. The full versions will only be available through the single (CD+DVD) which goes on sale Oct. 26.

Death Note: Light Up the New World opens nationwide on Oct. 29.
