Full 3DCG animated feature film GANTZ:O is slated for release on October 14, 2016 nationwide in Japan. It was announced on the GANTZ:O official website alongside the latest preview that the protagonist, Kato Masaru, will be voiced by popular seiyuu Ono Daisuke.
The movie GANTZ:O is based on the popular "Osaka Arc" of the original Gantz series, presented in full 3DCG for a whole new experience. Fans can look forward to action-packed scenes in which protagonist Kato leads the Gantz team against monsters in blood-drenched battles.
Ono Daisuke is one of the most popular voice actors in Japan, best known for his roles as Sebastian Michaelis from the Black Butler franchise and Heiwajima Shizuo from the Durarara!! series. He recently starred as Kujo Jotaro in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventures series. Ono commented that "As a fan of the series myself I'm excited to see the Osaka Arc adapted into a movie too. It's such a great opportunity to have a story from the original manga made into a full movie, so I think it'd be able to fully convey the heart and soul that Oku-sensei had poured into the work. I hope all fans of Gantz will come watch this movie. Please look forward to it!"
The original Gantz manga was serialized in Weekly Young Jump from 2000 to 2013. Sato Keiichi of Tiger & Bunny and Saint Seiya Legend of Sanctuary fame will oversee the production while Appleseed CG director Kawamura Yasushi will direct the movie. The movie will be written by Kuroiwa Tsutomu, who is also screenwriter to popular movies such as ONE PIECE FILM GOLD, Strawberry Night and Liar Game.
