Good Smile Celebrates Its 1000th Nendoroid With Complete Lineup Exhibit!

Nendoroid is a collectible figure series that started in 2006 with the character Neko Arc from Tsukihime. This July marked the series’ 13th anniversary and the release of the 1,000th Nendoroid, “Snow Miku: Snow Princess Ver.” To celebrate the milestone, figure maker Good Smile Company, the creators of Nendoroid, are holding a Nendoroid exhibit at the event space Akiba Co Gallery in Akihabara, Tokyo.

The Nendoroid series has a wide lineup of items with an emphasis on characters from popular anime and games. Over the years the series has expanded its lineup to also include characters that are popular overseas from Disney, Marvel, DC, Harry Potter, and others.

The name “Nendoroid” originated from the sculpting group Nendoron, being born from clay and “halfway between clay and an android.” Since the early days of the series, the format has remained unfixed in order to create a variety of sculpts. They are compact and easy to hold while having detailed sculpts, and their characteristic is their cute, round shapes. They can also easily be displayed with a variety of expressions, making them easy to play with. From their creation to the present day, Nendoroids continue to be highly popular and highly sought-after collectible figures.

At the event are magnificent displays of all 1,000 Nendoroids divided into groups of 100

The event features panels and dioramas looking back at the history of Nendoroid, as well as a display of all 1,000 Nendoroids that even includes hard-to-find rare Nendoroids. The exhibit gives a detailed view of the series’ journey so far.

“Nendoroid Neko Arc : Convert! Grumbling Face Edition” - the very first Nendoroid. Although the format is different from current Nendoroids, it still shares certain design elements including its chibi proportions, articulation, and optional parts.

The charity project “Cheerful Japan!” was held in 2011 to help reconstruction efforts after the Great East Japan Earthquake. “Nendoroid Hatsune Miku: Cheerful Ver.” was sold as part of the project, and proceeds were donated to help the areas affected by the earthquake.
“Nendoroid Link: Majora’s Mask 3D Ver.” The Zelda series is also hugely popular with TOM fans.
“Nendoroid Korra.” Even characters from shows not broadcast in Japan have been turned into Nendoroids.
“Nendoroid Tanya von Degurechaff.” In addition to her cute face she also includes a crazed face, of course.
“Nendoroid Sora,” the main character from the popular Kingdom Hearts series. Though small enough to fit in your hand, even his Keyblade has been meticulously sculpted.
“Nendoroid Diana Cavendish,” a character from the popular anime Little Witch Academia which is getting a VR game release in 2020. She is the rival of the main character, Akko.
“Nendoroid Zero Two” from the anime Darling in the Franxx. She comes with an abundance of parts including candy, bacon, and her jacket.

”Nendoroid Hatsune Miku.” This is the very first Nendoroid of Miku. A variety of other versions of Miku would later be released. Miku has such tremendous popularity that there is a Nendoroid of her in each of the 10 displays each showcasing 100 Nendoroids.
”Nendoroid Mario.” Even the most famous video game character in the world has become a Nendoroid.
Characters from all kinds of genres including anime, games, and live-action films have been turned into Nendoroids.
