How Much Do We Really Know About Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

Slated to be released on Dec. 7, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has fast become one of fans’ most highly anticipated games for the Nintendo Switch, but how much do we actually know about this latest installment?

One thing we do know is that all the characters who have appeared in the games so far will make an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate along with new characters like the Inklings from Splatoon and Ridley from Metroid. However, there's still so much to find out, so let's take a look at eight features that are still a mystery.

Firstly, what will happen with single player mode? While it’s great fun to play with your friends, there are times when you just want to perfect your technique on your own. Single player mode has been a significant feature of the last few games, but will fans be getting the beefed up Adventure Mode they’ve been hoping for? Only time will tell.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U allowed up to eight players to duke it out at once but only with limited stages and without the ability to play online. The trailer hinted that the eight player mode will be carried over to Ultimate, but fans are also hoping online play will be combined with it as a new feature.

Players have also had plenty of fun with the Smash Run Mode introduced in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. It may have been tailored for the DS’s capabilities, but the Switch is also a portable gaming system so it's possible that we'll be experiencing Smash Run Mode on a bigger screen.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U also introduced Smash Tour - a board game-style mode in which players move around the map collecting power-ups as Miis. Will the board game element also make it to the Switch?

Whether for serious practice or the fun of creating a gimmicky stage, the ability to design custom stages is also a feature that would be welcomed by fans for the new installment. The Switch's touch panel would definitely come in handy for more artistic creations!

Fans were overjoyed to hear that Ultimate will also be getting some new characters including Splatoon's famous Inklings, but how will they work exactly in terms of terms of gameplay? We'll have to wait to find out.

Super Smash Bros. supports online play across several different gameplay modes including Conquest and Tournament, but the experience can always be improved. Perhaps in consideration of the growing eSports side of the game, a feature for viewing others' battles could be added.

Bonus material like Snake and Pit’s hilarious taunting is also expected to make its way across. What kind of snarky dialogue will they come up with this time?

There’s plenty we don’t yet know about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so be sure to look out for upcoming announcements and reveals. What features do you want Nintendo to include?
