Crowdfunding Begins For a Shop Full of Delicious-Looking Yet Fake Sweets!

A new project on crowdfunding platform Campfire is gathering funds to open a temporary fake sweets shop in popular Tokyo shopping complex Omotesando Hills!

Heading the project is Kisen Erika, renowned for her skill in the art of crafting fake sweets that look as realistic and yummy as their real life counterparts! As a talented artist at the forefront of the fake sweets scene, she not only has published books on the art, but she also holds workshops across Japan for those who want to learn to do the same.

Lovingly dubbed the “Fake Sweets SHOP,” it is planned to open for a limited time from May 18−23, 2018. Not including Kisen, sixty-one other artists in the scene will display their best works, which will include anything from cute little displays to mouth-watering necklaces and earrings! Naturally, their unusually photogenic wares will also be available for sale.

This year marks what could be considered around the 10th anniversary of the “fake sweets movement”, which first started to gain traction in Japan around 2007 and 2008. Since then, the craft has grown into an increasingly popular hobby that has been welcomed with open arms in “kawaii” culture.

Those who participate by funding the project will receive rewards like “Mint Chocolate Cupcake Pop Charms” and a “Fake Sweets Bible.”
