In This Corner of the World Gets Live Action TV Drama!

Kouno Fumiyo’s historical manga In This Corner of the World will be getting a live action TV drama adaptation to be broadcast this summer.

The announcement was made in this month’s Manga Action published on March 20. Set in Hiroshima before, during, and after the Second World War, Kono’s manga follows its 18-year-old heroine, Suzu, as she marries into a new family and tries to make a life for herself despite the increasingly difficult times.

The series was previously adapted as a one-off TV special starring Kitagawa Keiko back in 2011. An animated movie project also began in 2012 and went on to successfully crowdfund over 39 million yen. The film, directed by Katabuchi Sunao and starring Non, became an international hit on its release in 2016 and also won the Best Animation of the Year from the 40th Japan Academy Prize.
