Mega Hobby Expo is an epic event for figure enthusiasts, especially those who don't want to break the bank! It was first established for members of the industry, but now any collector, fan, or creator can visit and see the latest goods manufacturers have in store for absolutely no admission fee. Visitors get to see not only figures in all steps of manufacturing from in development to complete, painted, and on sale, but also plush toys, acrylic charms, cushions, toys… pretty much everything!
Mega Hobby Expo 2017 Spring was held on May 27 in Akihabara, and the theme this year was “Wonderland.” As always there were a ton of companies taking part and showing off their latest goods including Alter, Hobby Japan, and Kotobukiya, but Aniplex also made their very first appearance! Want to see what these companies are working on? Prepare yourself, because there’s a lot!
Unsurprisingly, plenty of fan-favorite series like Naruto, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Love Live!, Pokémon, and Digimon made appearances.
Of course, the event wouldn’t be complete without other epic anime like Your Lie in April, Yuri!!! on Ice, Black Butler, Gintama, Gundam, and Fullmetal Alchemist, too!
The event also celebrated the 25th anniversary of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon with an incredible Petit-Chara! Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon display. Every Petit-Chara! figure based on the beloved franchise made an appearance, giving fans a chance to see and admire the incredible history of both the figures and Sailor Moon itself~
There were plenty of models and other popular lines like Frame Arms and Frame Arms Girl, as well!
Another epic year of figure and model-collecting means another hard year on the wallet…! Still, even if you’re like us and you’re running out of room to display your favorite figures, it’s incredible to see how far the craft has come~
