Swankiss 2016: Gothic & Lolita Meets Vintage European Romance

On a breezy weekend in Kitasando, we had the chance to meet with Producer Saaya Hayashida at her Swankiss Exhibit to talk about some dreamy releases to come.

After being greeted by a trio of mannequins sporting various pieces for summer and later seasons, our eyes quickly found a pattern of petals leading to this gorgeous bed. Lined with lace and satin, the sheets and roomwear certainly did their part in showing off the delicate beauty of the new Petit collection.

As we progressed further into the exhibition, the styles - and even the air in the room - felt increasingly sophisticated. While secretly expecting the princess concept to flow through the majority of the new pieces, we were pleasantly surprised by the introduction of The Lady, a vintage, romantic, and more mature design concept that Saaya has been working on.

With the new concept, Swankiss was able to take a beautiful step away from designs that concentrated on just the sweet and the bitter. Luxurious pearl upgrades for plainer straps, French inspired floral patterns and weaves, Scottish Tartan-checked one-piece dresses lined with adorable Swankiss collars, and the list goes on and on. According to Saaya, the new pieces are designed to express the complexity and passion of women through a fusion of vintage European elements and Swankiss’ ideas of Gothic & Lolita.

Many of the new blouses, dresses, and skirts from Swankiss - especially those in darker tones - offer plenty of functionality and versatility. We expect that their final versions should be nothing less than perfect for both everyday and semi-formal use!

For colder days in autumn and winter, Saaya has a few cuddly surprises already up her sleeve. Her warmly knit and rather oversized sleeve to be precise.

When asked about her favorite pieces of the upcoming seasons, one she chose without hesitation was the new oversized knit sweater.

Available in three colors and design variations, the sweaters each have their own bottoms that are designed to make the most of the trendy oversized silhouette.

Some of our own absolute favorites include the animal bags that will surely bring new life to any occasion, as well as one of the prettiest pair of heels we have seen all year.

Although adjustments still need to be made to many pieces in the exhibition, we were very impressed with what we saw, and we really look forward to sharing the coming seasons of Swankiss with you!
