What’s an otaku room? Let’s find out with the winner of the Facebook Otaku Room Photo Contest!

Here at Tokyo Otaku Mode we are really excited to introduce you to the winner of the Otaku Room Photo Contest we recently ran on the Tokyo Otaku Mode Facebook page! What’s an otaku room? And what can you find inside it? Let’s dive into this dreamworld guided by the winner of the contest!

Q. Congratulations on being the winner of our Otaku Room Photo Contest! Please tell us about yourself! (Name, age, occupation, country of residence)
A: I’m Will Tan, age XX, I work in a family business and live in Quezon City, Philippines.

Q: Which kind of otaku are you, and how long have you been an otaku for?
A: Don't know what category I'm in, but I do love anime, especially if the story is good, and also the characters... I love to draw and initially that's how i got into anime... I love how they draw them, especially girls..

Q: Your room is absolutely amazing, can you tell us how your otaku room came to be and how long it took to become so impressive?
A: I started out with just one display cabinet where I put my comic collection (Marvels, DC, etc.) and my anime figures... I started out with a Kanu Unchou figma. At that time I was already having second thoughts of buying her coz i thought it was a lot of money for such a small figure, but in the end I couldn't resist and bought her... It kinda took me awhile to buy my second figure, even though I really love how she was made. Then a few months later I started collecting more of her figures, but stopped when I saw Yoko Littner from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I loved her and also the anime. That was the time I started searching where I could get her figures. At that time I was already far behind since most of her figures already came out and had to backtrack most of them, but i was persistent to get them all. I only lack a few figures now, excluding the GKs coz i dont know how to paint and don't know anyone who does.

At that time I decided to redo my room... I think that was 2011. Then years passed and more figures came... Black Rock Shooter, Bakemonogatari, Kuroyukihime, Nendoroids, RAH, and Hot Toys. Space seemed to be a problem so I decided to tear my wall down along with the window, where the Yoko pictures from my ceiling came from, and had my room extended to get another cabinet built in the middle of this year (the cabinet in the picture with the Iron Man and lots of vacant space).

Q: Show us the best figure of your collection! Also, what are you planning to be your next
purchase?
A: The best figure for me is Yoko Bounty Hunter and my recent acquisition, Yoko Dollfie. I never thought I'd convince myself to get her since I started out having second thoughts of buying a P2000 figure, but i needed to have her...so when I found one for a good price I grabbed it. I haven't thought of what my next purchase will be...

Q: Have you been to Japan before? Do you have a favorite otaku spot (outside or inside of Japan)?
A: Nope, I haven't been to japan...but I do hope one day I'll be able to.

Q: What’s the meaning of being an otaku for you?
A: Total love for anything anime _

Q: How did you get to know Tokyo Otaku Mode?
A: Through a friend

We would like to thank Will Tan for taking the time to tell us about his otaku room and how it became so amazing. If you’re interested in creating your own otaku room, we hope this will serve as inspiration!
