The manga Kuma Miko: Girl Meets Bear currently serialized in Monthly Comic Flapper has been greenlit for an anime adaptation. Its combination of a bear and shrine maiden that live in a laidback style has brought the series a big following.
In celebration of the TV anime being greenlit, beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 14 in Akihabara, flyers will be distributed in front of Akihabara Gamers Honten. Not just an ordinary flyer, “Natsu’s Draft Flyer” will be handed out for free, and there will even be cosplayers dressed as Machi and possibly even Natsu (?) too.
Kuma Miko: Girl Meets Bear is a popular manga created by Masume Yoshimoto. It began serialization in Monthly Comic Flapper in 2013, and up through volume five of the tankobon manga has been published. The first several chapters of the manga are also available to read for free on ComicWalker, a website managed by Kadokawa. If you haven’t read it yet, now’s the time. The story takes place in a village in the Tohoku region. The main character is a shrine maiden named Machi Amayadori, and she is joined by a brown bear named Natsu Kumai. The story follows their daily life in the countryside.
It has been revealed that voicing Machi in the anime is Natsumi Hioka and voicing Natsu is Hiroki Yasumoto. On the staff side, Kiyoshi Matsuda is directing, and Pierre Sugiura and Masao Iketani are penning the script. The character designer and chief animation director is Hiroyuki Saida, and producing the animation is EMT Squared and Kinema Citrus, which also produced Yuyushiki, Barakumon, and the current season of Is the Order a Rabbit? that began broadcasting in October.
An official site has also launched on which a teaser PV has been posted. However, a broadcast schedule has yet to be revealed. What kind of anime will it be? Keep it here for more to come.
