A new lineup of the feel-good figures “Fuchico on the Cup” which sit and hang from the rim of a cup have been unveiled! The new style of figures, “Local Fuchico: Comic Foreground Fuchico,” come as a set with a touristy comic foreground, are region exclusive, and will be released in late July.
Comic foregrounds are a staple of tourist areas. Everyone no doubt has at least one memory of taking a commemorative photo in one. This completely new type of figure comes as a set with a comic foreground, which gives off nostalgia for the good old days, and a “Fuchico on the Cup” capsule toy, an extremely popular toy with over 800,000 sold in the series!
In the busyness of everyday life, haven’t you thought of wanting to get away and go somewhere, anywhere? But preparing for a trip can be difficult, and so can getting time off work… With these figures, you can go on a trip with Fuchico at such times for some grown-up playtime.
The designs of the comic foregrounds were created by comic foreground artist and illustrator Gao Tabata III. Tabata III was raised around tourist comic foregrounds, paintings of bath houses, and movie posters drawn by his father and grandfather. Though he has the title “comic foreground artist,” Tabata III’s experience includes winning the 2011 Portrait World Championship, and he has a penchant for drawing humorous portrait illustrations as well.
This time Fuchico takes on comic foregrounds themed after localities across Japan, including
Sakamoto Ryoma for Nagasaki, Shisa for Okinawa, the Statue of Liberty for Odaiba, Tsutenkaku for Osaka, a deer for Hiroshima, and Momotaro for Okayama. Fuchico looks surreal in appearance as she hangs down behind the comic foregrounds.
Sales of each figure will be limited to their respective regions, so they’re perfect as souvenirs as well. Even if you’re the type of person who thinks “I want to take a picture in a comic foreground, but I’m too embarrassed,” don’t you think you’ll have a good time with these Fuchico comic foregrounds?
Also, assuming the size and position of the head fit you may be able to take comic foreground photos using different figures from the lineup!
The lineup is planned to include a staggering 55 different figures! This summer why not collect “Comic Foreground Fuchico” figures to commemorate places around Japan you’ve visited?
