Streaming Begins Aug. 15 for All Three Episodes of “Attack on Titan” Live-Action Series Starring Satomi Ishihara

The scope of popular series Attack on Titan, which went from a manga to a hugely popular anime and now a live-action movie, is now widening even more to include a live-action drama. What’s more, the series will star popular actors and and have limited distribution.

Details for the previously announced live-action drama Shingeki no Kyojin: Hangeki no Noroshi (Attack on Titan: Counterattack’s Beacon) have been revealed on the video streaming service dTV. dTV will also begin exclusive streaming of all three episodes of the series on Aug. 15. dTV is the powered-up, largely rebooted form of dVideo that recently launched in April of this year. The service is known for its large-scale original titles.

This original Attack on Titan drama will tie in with the live-action Attack on Titan movies. The fact that cast members from the movies will reprise their roles in the drama is a highlight.

The story will be told from a different perspective - that of Commander Hange played by Satomi Ishihara. The story will follow the hidden secrets behind Hange’s Titan research, and the details surrounding the invention of the 3D Maneuver Gear. The episodes will have must-see developments for fans. Another highlight is new character Izuru played by Yuta Hiraoka.

In other news, “Hangeki no Ha” by Wagakki Band, a band that mixes rock and traditional Japanese music, has been chosen as the theme song of the series. The band has received high praise in Japan and abroad for their sound that incorporates a koto, Tsugaru-shamisen, and other Japanese influences. With their YouTube music video for “Senbonzakura” surpassing 22 million views, the band held solo performances overseas in May of this year, and they will also be the main act at this year’s Anime Expo in July.

The song “Hangeki no Ha” was created just for the occasion and is based on the world of Attack on Titan with a speedy feel that includes the fighting spirit of the soldiers who fight against the Titans. It will be included on the album Yasou Emaki to be released on Sept. 2.
