Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade to Be Released in October 2015 with Los Angeles Premiere

Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade has been produced with the support of crowdfunding, and will serve as the pilot film of the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Animator Development Project. Fans and supporters are finally being rewarded for their efforts, as it has been announced that the film will be released in October 2015, and will be playing in select theatres including Toho Cinema Shinjuku for a limited time.

Utilizing the American website Kickstarter, the Little Witch Academia Film Project was able to begin crowdfunding and receive tremendous support from North American fans. In order to thank the supporters, it has been decided that the world premiere of the film will take place three months earlier than the Japanese release date on July 3 in Los Angeles, U.S. as part of AnimeExpo 2015, the largest anime event in North America.

In Japan, advance movie ticket sales start from June 5, and standard adult tickets are offered for only 1,000 yen including tax.

Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade began from the anime short Little Witch Academia, which was created in 2013 by anime studio Trigger as part of the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Animator Development Project. Wanting to create an OVA-sized sequel to the short, the studio began its crowdfunding project through Kickstarter from July 2013.

With the support of 7,938 individuals over a 1-month period, the studio was able to smash its target of $150,000 and raise a total of $625,518 (approximately 7.4 million yen), more than four times the target. The overwhelming support allowed the studio to turn what was originally set to be an OVA into a film production.

Trigger is one of the anime studios that everyone has been turning their heads towards, and its unique perspectives and dedication to high quality shown in its signature series Kill la Kill has earned attention and popularity around the world. For Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade, top animator Yo Yoshinari took the director role for the first time, and created a film that is sure to draw anime and movie fans straight to theatres.
