‘Vitreous Flower Destroys the World’ Second Key Visual Released; Two New Female Characters Revealed

An original anime project by Pony Canyon and A-1 Pictures that is gaining attention titled Vitreous Flower Destroys the World will be released in theaters this year. The second key visual to the movie and new characters have now been released. A synopsis of the story has also been revealed. Because information hadn’t been released prior, it will likely become a new key to understanding the movie. Anticipation is building for the release.

The movie Vitreous Flower Destroys the World was a work first announced online. Fans began wondering just what kind of work it will be when in January 2015 a teaser site displaying a countdown timer launched. The movie was inspired by D.Backup, which won Pony Canyon’s Anime-ka Taisho award in 2013. The tag team of director Masashi Ishihama of From the New World and scriptwriter Fumihiko Shimo of Air, Clannad, and others was brought together for production. Kantoku, the illustrator of The “Hentai” Prince and the Stony Cat, is in charge of original character designs.

In comparison to the first movie visual that only showed one girl, the second visual now released show two additional girls for three total. The names of these characters have also been released. From the left, they are Dual, Rimo, and Dorothy. The highlight is that Dorothy is smiling even more than she was in the first visual.

The synopsis explains that there is a “Box of Wisdom” that holds within its weightless space countless worlds, and Dual and Dorothy both fight against enemies called “Viruses.” Then one day, they meet a girl named Rimo as she is attacked by Viruses. It closes with the worlds of the awakened girl: “I must return to the flower garden.”

Also revealed is that worlds infested by the enemies, the Viruses, must be purged. In the original work, D.Backup, the main female characters were software, but whether or not this has been changed for the movie cannot be ascertained from the synopsis alone.

The character introductions have equally meaningful quotes for each character: “I must return to the flower garden” for Rimu, “This isn’t a dream. The world you lived in until now...that was” for Dual, and “We aren’t going to cry. After all, there’s no need to” for Dorothy. Just what kind of story is this? Keep it here for follow-up reports.
