Another Death Note Has Fallen… ‘Death Note’ Becomes a TV Drama from July

Death Note, the manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, is to be made into a TV drama.

Death Note will be broadcast on Nippon TV as their Sunday drama from July. Casting information is still unclear, but it has been confirmed that N (Near), a character who is not featured in either the live action movies or musical, will appear in the TV drama.

A dedicated web page has been set up on the official Nippon TV website, as has an official Twitter feed:
@drama_deathnote.

Ryuk, the Shinigami who appears in the original manga, posted the following message right away via the official Twitter feed: “This is Ryuk, the Shinigami. I’ve dropped another Death Note, yeah? Look forward to a new Light/L showdown on Nippon TV from July. Sunday’s are gonna be so much fun ::evil laugh::” - it’s all getting exciting now.

Death Note was published in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2003 to 2006. In the two-part 2006 live action movie, the part of the protagonist Light Yagami was played by Tatsuya Fujiwara, and in 2008 a spin-off movie, L Change the World, was also released featuring Kenichi Matsuyama as L. On April 6, 2015 the curtain rose at Tokyo’s Nissay Theatre on a new musical adaptation starring Teppei Koike as L where performances will continue until April 29.
