High school girl idol duo ClariS is celebrating this year the fifth anniversary of their debut. Their first best-of album, ClariS - Single Best 1st, was released on April 15 and could be said to be the culmination of their career so far, which has seen one member graduate and a new member enter.
The limited edition version of the album will come with a special “ClariS Nendoroid Petite Best Ver.” figure set including clear versions of all four ClariS Nendoroid Petites manufactured so far, which is sure to attract the attention of fans.
Even if they’re only just decorated normally, ClariS Nendoroid Petites are good enough to recommend on their own, but this time anime!anime! are setting up a paint job challenge - try to come up with your own unique original ClariS color scheme.
The “ClariS Nendoroid Best Ver.” set includes clear versions of the “Irony Ver.,” “Connect Ver.,” “Naisho Ver.” and “Reunion Ver.” Nendoroid Petite figures. Each of the version names is taken from titles of ClariS singles and based on the illustrations created for their music. All of their characteristic accessories have been faithfully reproduced, including their hats and gloves from their first single on the “Irony Ver.” figures and the wrist scrunchies from their seventh single on the “Reunion Ver.” figure. Each figure is just packed with ClariS’ cute charm right down to the smallest details.
The figure chosen for anime!anime!’s paint job challenge is the “Naisho no Hanashi Ver.” based on ClariS’ fourth single, Naisho no Hanashi, which was selected as the ending theme for the Nisemonogatari TV anime. Series’ character designer, Akio Watanabe, was responsible for the illustrations. Made to resemble Nisemonogatari’s heroine Tsukihi Araragi in her hakama, even among the ClariS Nendoroid Petite figures, this is the only Japanese-style design.
First of all, the various component parts were disassembled - after the face, hair, torso, and wrists were carefully separated, the task shifted to the main paint job. In the original version, Clara had black hair and Alice brown, but anime!anime! came up with the bold new arrangement of giving Clara pink hair and Alice purple. Using Masking Sol to neatly separate the various colors to be painted and an airbrush to get a perfectly even coat of paint, they gave each figure ClariS’ original expressions. The figures’ crescent moon and sun shining golden hair accessories and stars delicately drawn on their sleeves are both impressive features too. Finally, they painted in the eyes, and added the eyebrows - and with that, a pair of unique, one-of-a-kind Nendoroid Petite figures was born.
Decorating them prettily, trying to make them light up - it’s even more moving. To those who have the regular versions, it’s fun to try and decorate them together. anime!anime! wants you to challenge yourself to create an original ClariS Nendoroid Petite of your own!
In addition to the limited edition version of ClariS’ best-of album, ClariS - Single Best 1st, there will also be a first limited edition featuring all of ClariS’ music videos, and a standard edition too. The limited edition version will retail for 8,148 yen, the first limited edition CD & Blu-ray combo will be 3,889 yen, the first limited edition CD & DVD combo 3,704 yen, and the standard edition 2,913 yen (all prices excluding tax).
The idol duo group ClariS, is made up of two current high school students, Clara and Alice, who made their major debut in 2010. Beginning with the opening theme for the TV anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica, “Connect,” they’ve since been responsible for many anime main title tracks. Alice graduated from the band after the release of their third album, Party Time, in June 2014. New member Karen joined in November of the same year, and ClariS took their first step towards rebirth. With their first solo live concert, “ClariS 1st Live Tobira no Saki e,” coming up in July 2015, all eyes are fixed on their current activities.
