New Episode ‘Pyrophoric Cult’ Ties ‘Ghost in the Shell: Arise’ and New Movie

The TV anime series Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Alternative Architecture began broadcasting this month, and an all-new Ghost in the Shell movie will be released in Japan on June 20. Masamune Shirow’s Ghost in the Shell has reached its 25th anniversary, and now excitement is building for the newest anime series.

The newest TV series, Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Alternative Architecture, is a re-edit made for TV of the 4-part film Ghost in the Shell: Arise that was released beginning in June 2013. The story takes place prior to the formation of Public Security Section 9, before Motoko Kusanagi and the others came together.

Not stopping at just being a mere re-edit, a highlight of Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Alternative Architecture is its new format. Episodes will not be shown in the order they were in theaters, but will instead be replaced by a flow based on an early concept by series composer Tow Ubukata. Each episode will be divided into two parts, and we can expect how the story will be portrayed to be quite different.

Another big highlight is the creation of an all-new episode just for the TV broadcast called “Pyrophoric Cult.” The episode features new character Pyromania and talks about an incident involving the computer virus, “Fire Starter.” This episode will fill in the gaps leading into the new Ghost in the Shell movie, taking place the day before. It will be plenty to raise anticipation for the new movie’s release on June 20.

In other news, “Pyrophoric Cult” will be coming to home video. The Blu-ray will cost 6,800 yen and the DVD 5,800 yen (both prices exclude tax), and both will be released on Aug. 26. We’d also like to highlight the video bonuses. Included are the opening sequence, the next episode previews, a Logicoma notebook, all 10 episodes of Kabushiki Gaisha: Kyuuka, and more. It’s also packed with tons of other bonuses too including a deluxe booklet called “Analyzed Fire Starter.” With a TV anime, movie, and a Blu-ray and DVD, there are plenty of ways to enjoy Ghost in the Shell.
