An exhibition for the photobook Suichuu Niiso (Underwater Knee-high Girls), a collection of girls wearing knee-high socks underwater, will be held from April 3 (Fri.) to April 13 (Mon.), 2015 in Division, a design space in Kyoto.
In addition, a club event titled “Underwater” will also be held on April 13 from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. at Club Metro.
Special guests for this event include Manabu Koga, a designer/photographer/filmmaker who is the creator of Underwater Knee-high Girls, techno artist Yoshihiro Sawasaki, the founder of Madmilky Records and chiptune composer, Toriena, Citron*, an idol unit from Kakogawashi, Hyogo, and more!
Attendees who wear knee-high socks to the event will even get a 500 yen discount for entry!
Talk Show at Kyoto Event!
Manabu Koga’s Underwater Knee-high Girls series was printed as a photobook in August 2013, and also had a follow-up photobook in October 2014 called Underwater Knee-high Girls Plus. An exhibition that opened in junction with the release of the books was held in Harajuku. In the beginning of March 2015, the exhibition made its debut in Taiwan.
This time, the whole series will be reformed into a new photo exhibition to be held in Kyoto. Unannounced new works are also planned to debut at this exhibition, along with a film that lets audiences take a look at the making of this series, called “Zentenkyuu Suichuu Niiso” (Omnidirectional Underwater Knee-high Girls).
At the club event “Underwater,” Koga will be performing as a VJ and projecting footage from Omnidirectional Underwater Knee-high Girls. We are so curious as to what the event space will be like!
Koga also hosts a talk show called “Gekkan Suichuu Niiso” (Monthly Underwater Knee-high Girls) at Bar Zingaro in Nakano, Tokyo every month. As a pop-up event in Kyoto, this special talk show will be held in Kyoto at Cafe La Siesta on April 4 (Sat.) from 6–8 p.m., and will be named “Bessatsu Suichuu Niiso” (Underwater Knee-high Girls: Other Volume).
This special talk show will feature the underwater photography staff and center around the process of the underwater shoot, a rare event! It looks like this spring will be filled with Underwater Knee-high Girls!

On the last day of Manabu Koga’s exhibition in Kyoto, Club Metro (Kyoto) will be holding an underwater knee-high socks themed event. Koga will be showcasing his footage from the underwater shoot as a VJ at the event. Get a 500 yen discount by wearing knee-high socks! Cosplay is allowed. There are changing spaces at the venue!
