From Thursday, Feb. 5, you can shoot Kamehameha at the Shibuya Parco Shibuya Koen-dori Square in Tokyo. There might be some of you who think, “What on Earth?”, but this is actually an event titled “Utou ze! Kamehameha! Budokai” to commemorate the release of the PlayStation 4 game Dragon Ball: Xenoverse. A special stage and a huge interactive screen have been set up at Shibuya Parco Shibuya Koen-dori Square, allowing guests to experience the “Kamehameha” as if they themselves actually used the famous technique.

Although the weather was really bad with pouring rain on Feb. 5, the day of its debut, the name Dragon Ball still attracted many media, giving proof of the brand’s almightiness. First, there was a demonstration by two high school girls and a child. You can use Kamehameha on your own of course, but you can also have a showdown with a friend. There is no age limit, even children can give it a try. It seems the lower you fire it from, the stronger the technique is.

In order to fire a Kamehameha, you need a ticket or “Firing License.” You can get one by standing in front of the white display device, which automatically measures your power level from your age, gender, and facial expression, and after that, it gives you your Firing License. What makes it even more fun is that this device has the same green screen as the Scouter, a computer appearing in the original work that is used to measure a person’s power level. To execute the technique, you have to stand in front of the screen and execute the movements of Kamehameha while the staff explains it to you. Then, the energy will be concentrated around your hands, and you will be able to release the Kamehameha by letting go of your hands.

According to the organizers, the project required careful planning. The shockwave responds to the height of the technique, and its strength even changes according to the state of your power. You can feel their love towards the series in the thoughtfulness it exhibits. Moreover, your Firing License includes a QR code, and by scanning it you can later see the pictures and a video of your valiant figure firing a Kamehameha.

This is a rare opportunity, so Mori from our editorial team had to challenge it, too. His power level measured 177,552, more than Ginyu’s 120,000 but less than Frieza’s 530,000. Is such an average number good or bad? Although he was a bit shy when setting it off, a blue wave of Kamehameha was released. The other color variations are yellow and red. That’s quite impressive for a power level of 170,000. By the way, it’s called “100x Big Bang Kamehameha” in the manga. There are levels for Kamehameha, and this is the strongest among them.
“Utou ze! Kamehameha! Budokai,” the event where you can personally experience the admired Kamehameha technique, is being held from Feb. 5 (Thu.) to the 8 (Sun.), from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For details, you can check the special page.

Participants, in addition to the QR code —which allows them to look at the pictures and a video of themselves firing a Kamehameha—are also presented with original stickers.
