Shoko Nakagawa aka Shokotan is known for her love of anime and manga, and now she’s working as an original planner on an anime. That anime is the cat-themed TV anime Omakase Mamitasu. It will broadcast every Tuesday beginning on March 31, with the first broadcast at 18:45 on NHK’s E-Tele. Takara Tomy is also going full steam ahead with developing merchandise of key items in the series, including the “Miracle Jarashi.”
Shoko Nakagawa is known for her love of cats. Mamitasu, which is used in the title, is the name of one of Shoko’s pet cats. Beginning with Mamitasu, 10 abundantly unique cats will appear in the anime.
The anime will also show bold dramatizations of the members of the Nakagawa family, which surrounds itself with cats. The story follows main character Pokomi Akagawa who receives magical items called “Miracle Jarashi” and “Miracle Bell” from Mamitasu given by her deceased father, who watches over her, in order to protect her in his place. What develops is a slapstick story with Pokomi, her family, and Mamitasu and the other cats, which transform into Miracle Cats through using the magical items.
The original work is being handled by Renoir Kyoudai and Yoshimori, and it’s being directed by Mitsuo Hashimoto, who has directed such works as Heli-Tako Pu-chan, the Bakugan series, Initial D Fifth Stage, the animated Dragon Ball films, and others. The series composer is Hideki Sonoda, who has worked on Choja Reideen, The Galaxy Railways, and was a writer on the Pokémon TV and film series. Producing the animation is OLM, whose works include the Pokémon series and Yo-Kai Watch.
We received the following ecstatic comment from Shoko Nakagawa regarding this anime adaptation: “I never thought the day would come when my precious cat Mamitasu would be animated! Through the years, Mamitasu has given me plenty of love, and there are plenty of times when he has picked me up from being lonely or sad. Mamitasu is so, so important to me, and I can’t wait to see how he will be animated! I also watched tons of anime when I was a child, and from it I learned courage and love. I really hope that through this anime, Omakase Mamitasu, as many children as possible will feel something similar.”
