The new toy titled “I Am A Cardcaptor ~Sealing Wand~,” based on the Sealing Wand from the TV anime series Cardcaptor Sakura, which has boasted tremendous popularity since it began airing in 1998, has been confirmed for product release! The original Cardcaptor Sakura manga, serialized in Nakayoshi girls’ magazine since 1996, is a shojo manga drawn by the manga artist group CLAMP, who are also known for manga such as Magic Knight Rayearth and Tsubasa. In 2000, serialization of Cardcaptor Sakura came to a finish, and all 12 volumes of the manga have been available for purchase ever since.
The Cardcaptor Sakura TV anime series, then, was produced by the anime studio Madhouse and broadcast on NHK. The director of the series was Morio Asaka, also known for directing popular series such as Chobits, Chihayafuru, as well as the anime series to air in 2015, Ore Monogatari!!. The anime has Nanase Ohkawa herself as the story editor, and even has two movie releases.
Finally confirmed for product release, the “I Am A Cardcaptor ~Sealing Wand~,” is a popular product that was first released in 1999, and re-released in 2004 when the anime was rebroadcast. This time’s re-release marks the first reproduction in 10 years, and the quality is higher than ever before.
The design preserves the image of the original wand and has been improved to resemble the design from the original series even more closely. In addition, the wand includes two voice recordings of the series’ main character, Sakura Kinomoto. The original recordings of the well-known lines “Release!” and “Return to thy true form! Clow Card!” by the voice actress, Sakura Tange, emanate from the wand simply by tilting it. The wand’s eyes and beak also glow when the lines are spoken, allowing for a faithful reproduction of the scenes from the anime series.
Fans of Cardcaptor Sakura from back in the day must also have reached a good age by now. Wouldn’t it be nice to clutch this wand and revive your memories of those days? And besides, even though product revivals like these are becoming more common nowadays, who knows about future trends?
