Animax Cafe Opens in Akihabara on Dec. 11, Produced by Anime-Only Channel

One more location for dispatching anime, manga, and music is about to be born in Akihabara, a city that gathers together every piece of Japan’s pop culture. The concept cafe Animax Cafe produced by Animax, a well-known anime-only channel, will open on Dec. 11. The cafe is a joint effort between Animax and Unitcom, a company that develops business software for PCs and related devices. The location where the cafe will set up shop is Sotokanda San-chome, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo - an area with a grouping of unique shops at the center of Japanese subcultures.

The concept behind the Animax Cafe is, of course, anime. This also extends to manga related to Animax, anime music, and even voice stars. It seems there will always be a freshness to the cafe as well, as the theme will change periodically and there will be events to match the season. Inside the cafe will be a fast-food-style cafe area with a merchandise area and a take-out area. An event stage will also be set up. The cafe will be prepared for all kinds of events.

There will also be full exhibits on series related to Animax. In addition to production materials, we’ve been told that there will also be a display of artists’ concert outfits. And it’s no wonder - Animax is strongly connected to anime songs. Talk shows with voice stars and concerts by artists familiar to anime fans will also be held. Development is also progressing on the cafe area’s collaboration menu between anime and manga, artists, and voice stars. Original products will also be prepared.

Animax is trying to make Animax Cafe the contact point for anime fans and Animax viewers. The company aims at new entertainment through management of its anime-only channel and continuing events like Animax Musix and Animax Musix DJ Night Tokyo. Applications are currently being accepted on the official site for cafe cast members. Called the “Cast Cultivation System,” this also serves the purpose of cultivating talent that can flourish in a place of entertainment.
