First Chapter of Naruto and Conclusion of Rurouni Kenshin - Free Distribution Begins of Weekly Shonen Jump 1999 Issue 43 Digital Reprint

In Issue 50 of Weekly Shonen Jump on sale Nov. 10 is the conclusion to author Masashi Kishimoto’s popular manga Naruto. As a commemoration project, the editing department at Weekly Shonen Jump have reissued digitally the first serialization of Naruto in Issue 43 of Weekly Shonen Jump released in 1999. The digital reissue became available to view for free on the manga app Shonen Jump+ on Nov. 9 at 17:00. The issue will be available until Nov. 23 at 23:59 (JST).

Naruto began serialization 15 years ago in 1999. Why not see how this work of tremendous popularity started out along with its conclusion? You’ll surely feel nostalgic when you see a very young Naruto.

This reissue doesn’t just include Naruto but also other popular works from that time as well. This includes series still serializing even today such as One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Kochikame, as well as other nostalgic masterpieces like Hikaru no Go and Shaman King.

Among the series in this issue, one in particular to pay attention to is the conclusion of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s huge hit series Rurouni Kenshin. Two live-action films for this worldwide popular series released this summer and became huge hits totalling over 10 billion JPY in box office revenue combined. Though the series is still continuing to this day, it was concluded temporarily 15 years ago. The timing of these two works, one beginning and one ending, in the same issue is also surprising. The first serialization of Naruto begins in color at the opening of the issue, and the full-color conclusion to Rurouni Kenshin is in the center.
