The Japanese pop culture event Anime Festival Asia Indonesia 2014 (AFA 2014) was held in Jakarta, Indonesia for three days from Aug. 15-17. The event was held at the same location as Miku Expo, the Jakarta Convention Center.
Since its creation in Singapore in 2008, AFA has developed into being one of the biggest Japanese culture events in Southeast Asia. Over the past six years, the event has been held nine times all over Southeast Asia including Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The AFA-branded events last year brought in 130,000 visitors.
This year’s recently held AFA Indonesia used the same venue as before, but the event space was expanded. In addition to AFA Cafe, a food space that offers takoyaki, okonomiyaki, beef bowls, and more, there were creator booths and a Sony booth. At the Sony booth was a space for demoing a dance game on the PlayStation 4 and a DJ booth that brought a lot of excitement to the large crowd gathered. There was also an abundance of anime-related events including talk shows with the staff of Sword Art Online II and No Game No Life and screenings of the latest anime including Episode 7 of Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn and K: Missing Kings.
The concert space was completely packed and a huge amount of anisonng singers and anisonng DJs who are taking Japan by storm performed one after the next. On the second day, Egoist performed the popular song “Namae no Nai Kaibutsu” from the TV anime Psycho-Pass and Eir Aoi performed the opening theme “Ignite” to the currently airing TV anime Sword Art Online II, wrapping the venue in wild enthusiasm.
The next AFA will be held at the Suntec Singapore Convention Center in Singapore from Dec. 5-7. For those who live close, why not try it out?
