The event “Pikachu Huge Outbreak-chu! at Yokohama Minato Mirai” started on Aug. 9. By Aug. 17, the area was bustling with a gathering of 1,000 Pikachus.
Pikachus Appear All Over Yokohama!
The appearance of Pikachu for the event was concentrated in the Minato Mirai Station area, the Red Brick Warehouse area, the Marine Tower area, and the Sakuragichō Station area. For much of the time, dozens of Pikachus were walking around the outdoor Yokohama Landmark Plaza to the sound of cheers from the bustling crowd and shutter clicks as they snapped pictures on their smartphones.
Why Yokohama Minato Mirai?
Of the eight Pokémon Center stores located throughout Japan, Pokémon Center Yokohama has become the longest-running store since it opened in March 2005. Because of its long history with the area, Yokohama was selected as the venue for this event.
Children who attended the event were even given sun visors themed after Pikachu. Throughout the event, close to 500,000 “little Pikachus” gathered in Yokohama. A Pikachu card exclusive to the event was also given out.
Pikachu, Dance!
At the installation space inside MARK IS Minato Mirai, the Pikachus put on a dance! Occasionally, they would even jump into the air.
Regarding the event, a spokesperson from Pokémon Company commented, “In the world of Pokémon there is certainly not just one Pikachu, but many. [This event] expresses the unique world of Pokémon.” This event will certainly become a summer memory for those children who attended!
