The trending music group MimiMemeMIMI held its first solo concert, “MimiMemeMIMI 1st Live Welcome to MimiMemeLAND,” on June 22, showing their faces for the first time.
MimiMemeMIMI is a new unit that just debuted last year on Aug. 14. Its members are singer/songwriter Yuka and her school friend and illustrator Chamooi. As a “next generation audiovisual unit” that stimulates audiences’ eyes and ears, Yuka and Chamooi have been ambitiously active since their debut, doing so while not showing their faces even once. This changed at the concert, where they showed their faces to fans for the first time.
The concert began with a video projected on a screen, and afterwards one person’s silhouette appeared on the screen and the pop tune “Mr. Darling” was emphatically sung. Then, in the middle of their second song, their debut single “Sentimental Love,” the screen collapsed and vocalist Yuka appeared wearing a white one piece, which instantaneously heated up the audience. In a loud voice, she cheerfully addressed the audience, saying, “We are MimiMemeMIMI. Welcome to the opening day of ‘MimiMemeMIMI 1st Live Welcome to MimiMemeLAND!’” She enthusiastically sang eight songs while performing cute dances along with her backup dancers before the curtain came down temporarily on the masterful performance.
She appeared on stage once more in response to the audience’s call for an encore and the atmosphere of the energetic concert changed completely with a calm piano ballad. Yuka then sang their final song, their new song “Say-You,” before closing the show by revealing her identity: “I’ve been Yuka Takao, vocalist of MimiMemeMIMI.” The concert ended in the band being showered in delight with smile on their faces.
Their first concert was filled with elements playing on their designation as an audiovisual unit and they were dressed in impressive outfits that looked like they came straight out of a whimsical animation or illustration. It was, in a word, a masterpiece. With their first album Meikyou Sentimental slated to release on Aug. 13, more eyes are sure to be drawn to MimiMemeMIMI from here on.

Both members knew of the other’s activities while in university, and they were driven to want to jointly create something that fused music and illustration. Yuka debuted in the 2013 TV anime Kimi no Iru Machi as Nanami Kanzaki. In addition to being in charge of main character Alka in the 2014 anime Blade & Soul, she has wide-ranging activities that include being a personality on the web radio show Blade & Soul - Talk Radio with the Reticent Alka.
