The broadcast start date of the TV anime adaptation of Ao Haru Ride, a popular shoujo manga currently serialized in Bessatsu Margaret (Shueisha), has been announced. The first broadcast will take place on Tokyo MX late night on July 7 at midnight. It will be played later that night at 2:35 a.m. on MBS and at 12:30 a.m. on July 8 on BS11.
Coming before the broadcast’s start in July, a second promotional video has been released that depicts the point of view of main character Futaba Yoshioka. Through narration by Maaya Uchida, the voice of Futaba, and the work’s beautiful music, the PV shows fleeting memories of a school romance and the reappearance of Kou Mabuchi at high school.
A DVD will be included in the July issue of Bessatsu Margaret on sale June 13 on which is a PV narrated by Hiroki Kaji, the voice of Kou. This PV shows their reunion from Kou’s point of view. Coupled with the Futaba PV, there is no way that these won’t increase excitement even more for the anime.
Also released are character concept art for Futaba and Kou. Both their high school forms and lively middle school forms are depicted with a gentle touch. These two will increase anticipation for a heartrending story.
Ao Haru Ride by Io Sakisaka began serialization in 2011. It is currently a huge bestseller with over 5.84 million copies of the individual volumes sold and a live-action movie adaptation already in the works. Producing the anime is Production I.G who was also behind Kimi ni Todoke, Kuroko’s Basketball, and others. An interesting point to the anime is how the delicate story will transition to anime. On June 29, before the broadcast begins, a screening of the first episode and talk event will be held. With the broadcast start date locked in, things will finally start picking up for Ao Haru Ride.
