As a special bonus, collaborative Kumamon straps will be included in advance tickets for Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire/The End of a Legend, sales of which will begin in Japan on May 3. The straps aren’t just of a Kenshin Kumamon, there is also a Kumamon version of his archenemy, Makoto Shishio.
The huge hit movie Rurouni Kenshin starring Takeru Satoh released in 2012 and earned 3.01 billion yen in box office revenue. Releasing this summer are the movie’s two sequels: Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire (Aug. 1) and Rurouni Kenshin: The End of a Legend (Sept. 13). The previous movie was set at the end of the tumultuous Edo period in Tokyo where the new Meiji era was being welcomed in. The sequels are based on the Kyoto arc which is hugely popular with fans and will depict the showdown with Kenshin’s archenemy, Makoto Shishio, who has his eyes set on taking over Japan. The sequels will have even more action and elaborate drama.
Expectations are also high for the new cast which consists of Tatsuya Fujiwara as archenemy Makoto Shishio, Yusuke Iseya as Aoshi Shinomori, and Ryunosuke Kamiki as Sojiro Seta.
Three types of advance tickets to the movie will go on sale May 3 in theaters nationwide. In addition to a Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire/The End of a Legend set that includes straps of Kenshin Kumamon and Makoto Shishio Kumamon, there will also be advance tickets to Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire that include a clear file of Makoto Shishio and advance tickets to Rurouni Kenshin: The End of a Legend that include a clear file of Kenshin. Each bonus item is limited to the first 30,000 people, so make sure to get yours quick.
This collaboration was implemented due to Kumamoto Prefecture being the place where the majority of the movie was shot. Other factors that led to this collaboration include main character Kenshin Himura’s trademark outfit matching the color of the Red Brand of Kumamoto, as well as Kumamoto Prefecture being the home of Kawakami Gensai, whom Kenshin is modeled after. Make sure to get your hands on the lovely Kumamon straps created from this miraculous collaboration.
