Theatrical Attack on Titan Anime Announced - “Part 1: Crimson Bow and Arrow” to Release This Winter

With both the original manga which began serialization in 2009 and the 2013 TV anime both being monumental hits, the record-breaking Attack on Titan boom charges on. Excitement for the series has risen even more since the announcement of a live-action movie adaptation that will release nationwide in Japan in 2015. Now, more new films have been announced. A theatrical version of the Attack on Titan anime is coming to theaters. Two compilations encompassing all 25 episodes of the TV series are in the works: Attack on Titan the Movie: Part 1: Crimson Bow and Arrow and Attack on Titan the Movie: Part 2: Wings of Freedom. The first part will release this winter and the second will release in 2015.

The Attack on Titan series is set in a shocking time period in which the world is full of creatures called Titans that prey upon humans, who live in cities surrounded by massive walls to keep the Titans at bay. The people become complacent in thinking they are safe from danger, but a Colossal Titan that defies all prior knowledge appears and changes things completely. Main character Eren Yeager and his friends then put their lives on the line to protect humanity’s existence by fighting against the Titans.

The original manga by Hajime Isayama is a best-selling work with over 36 million copies in print. Over 100,000 copies of Volume 1 of the anime have also been sold. The series is also hugely popular overseas. This momentum has led to the theatrical version.

According to the announcement, the first part of the movie will cover Episodes 1-13 and the second part Episodes 14-25. In addition to being re-edited, they will also be newly dubbed and have a 5.1-channel remaster. They will be full of elements that make them worth seeing. There is no doubt that many fans will be eagerly awaiting the release of Part 1 this winter.
