The first chapter of the movie series The Next Generation: Patlabor to be released on April 5, 2014 is making huge headlines. Heading this large-scale project with a budget of ￥2.2 billion is director Mamoru Oshii, who has worked on the Patlabor series in the past as well as the Ghost in the Shell series.
A poster visual released just the other day is causing quite a stir, and on Dec. 20 a teaser trailer was finally released. The trailer of this live-action movie shows the cast of characters and the AC-98 Ingram. Fans won’t want to miss it.
Though the teaser is only 30 seconds in length, it is packed with highlights. It starts with showing an Ingram laying horizontally being transported by a convoy. Even this scene alone will get fans excited. The new generation characters are also shown one after the next. The world of The Next Generation: Patlabor is shown to its fullest, included Akira Izumino of the Special Vehicle Section 2 played by Erina Mano. However, there is rightfully another main character who is likely to grab the spotlight: AV-98 Ingram. The Revolver Canon is synonymous with Patlabor, and the teaser shows Ingram posed ready to use it.
The Next Generation: Patlabor project will span seven movies with entirely new stories and will release sequentially in theaters. It will culminate with a full-length movie to release countrywide in Japan during the 2015 Golden Week period. From start to finish, the project will span nearly two years.
Chapter 1 of the movie, to be released on April 5, 2014, will include Episodes 0 and 1. Episode 0 will focus on the history of the Metropolitan Police Special Vehicle Section 2, and Episode 1 will focus on the members of the new Section 2. This episode, titled “Dispatch the Third Generation!,” will look at the daily lives of the members of the third generation Section 2. The teaser trailer released has piqued our interest even more, and we can’t wait for spring 2014.
