Square Enix is a game company that continues to put forth role playing games that fascinate fans all over the world such as the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series. It’s probably safe to say that there isn’t a single gamer who hasn’t heard the name. However, were you aware that this company also offers a place where fans can enjoy the worlds of these two famous series?
A little outside the bustle of Tokyo at Higashi-Shinjuku Station in a corner of the Shinjuku Eastside Square Building directly connected to the station lies a white cocoon-like structure bearing the name “Artnia.” This building is none other than the official Square Enix store and cafe.
As you step into the building, familiar characters from the games sit in a room done all in white to greet "adventurers" entering the world of Artnia. From Chocobo to Slime and Cactuar to Tonberry, the multitude of cute monsters are sure to capture your heart.
In addition to plush toys, the store is packed with a wide array of merchandise related to the games of Square Enix. Picking them up one by one is a guaranteed way to relive each memory from the games.
After browsing the merchandise, we move further into a space all in jet black. Within this luxurious space are characters from Square Enix’s acclaimed action figure brand “Play Arts Kai” and accessories modeled after icons from the games.
The highlight of this space was the crystal floating in the center. It was like a scene from the game: a crystal giving off a solemn glow, a flowing waterfall that seems to protect it, and at its base, a number of materia in different colors. Once it enters your field of vision, you’ll find yourself gazing at it without a thought or sense of time.
The final area I hope you have a chance to enjoy is the Artnia cafe and bar. With softdrinks modeled on the item “Potion” that any fan has used over and over, cocktails called “Shiva” and “Ifrit” based on the summoned monsters, and pancakes featuring cute characters like Chocobos, the menu is full of items to satisfy both your stomach and your heart.
The store often holds game-related events as well. They’re currently holding a month-long Final Fantasy XI event from Oct. 11 to Nov. 10. Please visit the official home page for event details.
So what did you think? Many fans from abroad also visit the store, and there are plenty of staff to help out. To all the Square Enix fans around the world, please be sure to make your way to this store the next time you’re in Tokyo!
