TGS 2013: The Wargaming Japan Booth Included a Girls und Panzer Collaboration!

Wargaming Japan is Belarusian game vendor Wargaming’s corporate branch in Japan. Their online war game World of Tanks, set during World War II, has over 70 million players worldwide and holds the Guinness World Record for “Most Players Online Simultaneously on One MOG Server.”

In conjunction with Japan’s official launch of World of Tanks in September, Wargaming Japan opened a large-scale booth at Tokyo Game Show to appeal to fans. The company filled the spacious area with a number of demo stations, creating an environment where players could fully enjoy the game. Visitors to the booth could play the latest versions of the game, including the PC version of World of Tanks currently being offered, as well as World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition, which is currently undergoing beta testing.

Both the PC and Xbox 360 versions are compatible with Japanese, so even first time players were able to enjoy the game. Headphones were also provided so players could hear the realistic sounds of the tanks and artillery within the noisy venue. This allowed players to more comfortably enjoy the realistic tank battles.

Another attraction for Wargaming Japan was their collaboration with Girls und Panzer, an anime also featuring tanks that has recently gained popularity. They included a promotion where anyone who played the game demo received a Girls und Panzer clear plastic file and also got to draw in a lottery, with “World of tanks meets Girls und Panzer” items such as T-shirts and calendars as prizes.

There was also a collaboration with Girls und Panzer, an anime that features tanks as well.
Models of tanks from the anime were on display at the booth.

The booth also featured an actual Type 95 tank on display and included an area where visitors could take a photo with a tank and models. Other events have been planned for the release date, including a panel discussion with voice talent from Girls und Panzer and a World of Tanks battle with popular gamers.
